let it snow.

I hate the cold. I hate being wet and outside in the winter. I hate driving in the snow. I hate ice. I hate slush. GROSS.

all that hate aside... i LOVE the snow. really. it's so white and fluffy and soft and fun and how can you help but be happy when you are playing in it? (as long as you can immediately go inside and sit by the fire right?)

soo since provo was finally cured of its terrible air and inversion this past weekend with mounds of snow, I fully took advantage of some of snow's greatest wonders.

On Friday, Michelle and I (and scott k and scott f) went skiing at the Canyons Resort in Park City and it was SO fun! Okay, disclaimer, I haven't been skiing in YEARS! For a while I was way too hardcore for skiing and became a snowboarder. and then i repented and remembered that skiing is way better. Unfortunately, just because I can admit it doesn't mean I am good at the actually sport of it. So, the day didn't start off all that great and I was on the ground most of the time. But I got better and even with fogged goggles I had a BLAST and can't wait to go again. After all, I promised Greg I would be good at skiing by the time he got home from his mission (don't worry I have until summer of 2011).

After our little skiing adventure, Mich and I had just enough time to get into warm clothes and relax a little before our friends decided we should go sledding. So we bundled BACK up in our snow gear and headed up to rock canyon, sore and exhausted, to sled down the hill, run back up and repeat. I LOVED IT! Freshman year, we went sledding every day for weeks, I swear. So it was good to be back up there ready for action.

i also  loved the fact that scott k and jeff were our chauffers for the day so mich and i didn't have to brave the snow.

and i totally didn't take that picture. thank you google image. i just thought it was a good little visual aid for all you who have forgotten what snow looks like.

so yes. let it snow. just for one more month. and then bring me SPRING!

24 January 2010

if we were a movie.

you know those people who say "i've been there" as movie scenes flash before them on the screen? the people you secretly want to hit because you really don't care where they have been, you just want to enjoy the movie? yeah... i've so become one of those. BUT i swear this one is cool.

remember this picture:

well that very same image (minus me) can be seen in the new movie Leap Year. as Anna and Declan wait for that final bus to take them to Dublin, you get to experience the city Enniskerry. and i get to love the fact that i have sat on that same bench waiting for that same bus once in my life. and i know, like i said before, this whole concept is mostly annoying. but i can't help but brag. i miss that place.

so go ahead and hit me.

20 January 2010

father of mine.

how about a shout out to this guy:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!

He's the greatest 63 year old I know.

country grammar.

like i mentioned in number four of my previous post, i am currently in two writing classes.

one is Media Writing, and a prerequisite for any Pre-Communications major at BYU.
and the other is Business Communication, which fulfills yet another awful GE.

want to know what i've learned? well for one, that "which" in the sentence above makes the words after it less important. yep. apparently "which" is a de-emphasizer.

want to know what else i've learned? besides that I hate commas? grammar and writing rules are hard. i honestly feel bad for anyone that has to learn our language because frankly it is ridiculous.

and really, i think i generally speak and write well. (look there! i even know when to use well as opposed to good.) but unfortunately, this blog has never received any good grammar from me. and now that i know millions of more grammar rules, i second guess every sentence i write. but unless i am writing a paper, i really don't care.

so from the bottom of my illiterate heart i sincerely apologize for the improper grammar, comma splices, run ons, fragments, dangling modifiers, spelling errors, and all my other poor writing habits.

i hope it isn't too painful.

10 January 2010

i know i know i know.

i've already learned a million things since i've been back at real school ... here are a few of my favorites:

#1. the reason BYU is said to have a generally highly attractive student body is because they make us climb so many dang stairs every day.

#2. FACT. dwight schrute IS in my american government class.

#3. it takes about a week to learn how to properly parallel park, and about 10 minutes to get to your apartment from wherever you found a spot.

#4. i hate commas. i don't like to use them. i don't know where to put them. and i really don't care. i have two writing classes this semester that are trying to kill me with all their dang comma rules.

#5. the walk home from campus is the perfect time for a phone call.

#6. used really does save.

#7. you don't realize how easy it is to spot the freshmen until you aren't one any more.

#8. i really suck at texting people back.

#9. people really will never learn that just because it is sunny outside, it doesn't mean you can wear shorts.

#10. cooking for yourself is the worst.

so thank you 2010 for already teaching me such valuable lessons.

07 January 2010

don't call it a comeback.

the arrival of 2010 has already brought many new things.

first of all... i have moved out yet again. i am now a resident of Liberty Square and now walk to school in all my zoobie glory. I am rooming with Amy. my friend from freshman year and it is already a blast!

and i am also back at BYU. it is definitely an adjustment being back on campus and i have to say i miss walking down the stairs in my pajamas to go to class. but i will get used to it somehow. as much as i hate to admit it, it feels good to be back on campus. its is an added bonus that i get to see all my long lost friends again.

so here is to another semester. one hopefully full of good friends.

hello byu. remember how much you love me?

02 January 2010

this is the new year.

2009 was a good year.

there was the end of my freshman year... camping, basketball games, all nighters, dances, new friends and some of the greatest people around. unfortunately this came with a lot of goodbyes, but mostly see you soons.

there was the reuniting of three of the best friends there ever was. needless to say MEC's comeback was one of the greatest.

there was long summer nights and cold winter ones.

there was a lot of good music and television.

there were homecomings and farewells and a lot of rights and wrongs.

there were lessons learned and things remembered.

then there was london and the best three and a half months ever. plus 40 new best friends and a new found love for a distant city.

and finally the best christmas break ever.

so here's to 2009. a good year... a great year even.

but now it's on to the next one.

hello 2010...i know you are bound to be successful. and i look forward to the surprises ahead.

and even more, here's to another decade. one that will surely bring even more change and good times. the 00's were great but i have high hopes for the 10's.

xoxo.
